A Soviet vintage educational school poster depicting the animal world of the Tibetan Plateau. Geography teaching aid from the collection of a retired Ukrainian teacher. Original vintage item, 1973 design, reprinted in 1985 in RSSR.

The poster features illustrations of various animals commonly found in the Tibetan Plateau which are adapted to high-altitude, mountainous, and cold environments:
  • Yak (Як): Located in the top left, the massive, long-haired bovid is central to the fauna of the region. The centre panel also shows a herd of yaks moving through a high mountain valley.
  • Chiru / Tibetan Antelope (Антилопа оронго): Shown in the bottom left corner, this species features long, slender, upright horns.
  • Tibetan Macaque (Медвежий макака): Pictured in the top right next to the leafless branches.
  • Tibetan Snowcock (Тибетский улар): The ground-dwelling bird perched near the top-right shrubbery.
  • Kiang / Tibetan Wild Ass (Кианг): a large, wild equine taking up the lower right portion of the poster.
CONDITION:

Good vintage, subtle signs of classroom use – a genuine piece of Soviet-era educational history. Please enlarge photos for details. Light wear to the edge secured at the reverse with archival tape (see last photo).
