An original Soviet vintage educational poster, "Which rules are broken?", printed in Dinpropetrovsk (now Dnipro), Ukraine, in 1983. From the collection of a retired teacher used in classrooms in Ukraine. 

It illustrates bad habits regarding reading posture, eye health, and book care. Here is an explanation of each section:
Broken Rules (Central Yellow Circle)
  • Top: A girl is reading while lying on her stomach. This strains the eyes and harms posture.
  • Right: A boy is reading right next to a turned-on television, causing severe distraction and eye strain.
  • Bottom-Right: A girl is slouching heavily at her desk, keeping her face way too close to the book.
  • Bottom-Left: A girl is reading a book while eating an apple.
  • Left: A boy is reading a book at the dinner table while eating soup.
Reading while eating can damage the pages with food stains and is bad for healthy digestion.

Correct Behaviours & Care (Four Corners)
  • Top-Left: A sink, soap, and towel emphasise washing hands before handling books to keep them clean.
  • Top-Right: A book jacket/cover protector shows how to shield books from wear and tear.
  • Bottom-Left: A desk lamp properly lighting an open book shows the correct setup for reading safely.
  • Bottom-Right: Glue, scissors, and a paper strip represent repairing damaged books instead of throwing them away.
